Pinterest

I enjoy using Pinterest. I pin all sorts of things such as recipes, clothing, decorating ideas, and resources for the classroom. There are tons of awesome ideas for  classroom use. Pinterest is fun and encourages collaboration!

I was looking on Pinterest today and I came across the Pearson Foundation-We Give Books. This site allows a teacher to build a digital library. Books can be watched on the computer or projected onto the SMART Board. There are tons of books available!

Skype in the Classroom

I was looking at more Steve Anderson tweets and came across this link......

Connect Your Classroom to the World!!!

This is a perfect site to look at if you are considering using skype in your classroom. The link shares some short videos about how to use skype. There is also an option that allows teachers to look for experts in all subject areas. After the teacher finds an expert in the subject area he or she is looking for, the expert can skype with his or her class. Skype is free to use!

Twitter

I like Twitter!  It is very fun to browse in your spare time, but it is also a great resource. It is very easy to use as well. I have thought about using Twitter in my future classroom, but I was eager to read more about the ways in which I could incorporate it. I read two articles, Teaching with Twitter by Steve Wheeler and 25 Ways to Teach with Twitter by Sonja Cole. These articles both gave me some ideas on how I can use Twitter in my future classroom.

·      Provides a word of the day, book recommendation, article recommendation, trivia fact, or   helpful resource.
·      Share resources with other teachers.
·      Tweet about your schools website or blog.
·      Alerts students to changes in schedule or use it remind students of things coming up.
·      Asks students to summarize an article
·      Allows students to follow a famous, influential person and write about their experience following that person.

Lastly, I watched the video of the professor who used Twitter in her classroom. I think that is an awesome idea! It really gets everyone participating. Some people, including myself are shy and don’t feel comfortable participating in a room full of students, but Twitter allows for people to feel more confident about participating. Teachers can also provide feedback to their students which I think really benefits students’ learning.

This course is very informative! I think as teachers we are very fortunate that Le Moyne College offers this type of course to us. When I first signed up for this class, I had no idea what to expect. This class has introduced me to all kinds of technology and topics that I honestly didn’t even know existed! Technology is becoming such a large part of our daily lives that it is so important to stay current on the new digital literacies out there today for our own sake and the sake of our students’ learning. I can’t wait until I have a classroom someday so I can try out all the new things I learned with my students.
